SEC lands 5 spots in our basketball home-court rankings. Did we get it right?

The SEC has never had much trouble convincing people it matters in football.

Basketball? That argument is still being made, but five of its arenas offer a good talking point.

Five SEC venues landed spots in Student Section’s ranking of the 25 biggest homecourt advantages in college basketball. That’s a quarter of the list for a league often defined by what happens on Saturdays in the fall, and plenty of reason for hoops fans to start arguing.

No SEC building cracked the top four — Kansas’ Allen Fieldhouse, Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium, Purdue’s Mackey Arena and Iowa State’s Hilton Coliseum claimed those spots — but five arenas in the Top 25 make a compelling case that the league’s basketball identity deserves more attention.

There’s no perfect science to this and you’re probably going to disagree with where your favorite program ranks. That’s part of the fun. Let the debates begin.

Home-court advantage looks different from arena to arena, which makes ranking the best environments a matter of perspective.

We know not everyone will agree with our picks and we wouldn’t expect you to do so.

With that in mind, here’s a closer look at the five SEC arenas that made our list, followed by the full Top 25.

No. 5: Tennessee — Thompson-Boling Arena

When Thompson-Boling Arena turns into a sea of orange for a big SEC showdown, you know you’re in for a long night if you’re rooting for the visitors.

Nearly 22,000 fans bring the noise, with the Rocky Top Rowdies student section leading the charge. Every defensive stop, fast-break bucket, and questionable whistle gets a reaction.

And when the Vols make a run, the place gets loud. Really loud. The opposition rushes possessions, communicating gets tougher and even a simple pass can feel like an adventure.

If you’ve been inside Thompson-Boling for a top-10 matchup, you know Knoxville is no place for the faint of heart.

Known as The Trough, the Arkansas student section brings a sea of red to Bud Walton Arena to create one of college basketball’s toughest road environments. Photo by Wesley Hitt/Getty Images

No. 10: Arkansas — Bud Walton Arena

Call the Hogs, and Bud Walton Arena answers right back.

There’s a reason they call it the Basketball Palace of Mid-America. When the Razorbacks go on a run and nearly 20,000 fans break into a thunderous Woo Pig Sooie chant, the place can feel like it’s shaking. The Trough student section sets the tone, but the entire building gets in on it.

Arkansas fans bring an edge that matches their team’s identity: loud, relentless and ready to make life miserable for anyone wearing the opposing colors.

Visiting teams don’t need long to figure out what they’re up against in Fayetteville.

No. 13: Kentucky — Rupp Arena

More than 20,000 fans. Championship banners everywhere. At Rupp Arena, you’re not just playing in a big building — you’re competing against history.

Big Blue Nation shows up expecting to win, and The eRUPPtion Zone student section helps bring the noise. When the Wildcats get rolling, the roar builds, the energy takes over and every possession feels bigger than the last.

But here’s the thing about Kentucky: The expectations go both ways. A big win sends the crowd into a frenzy, while a home loss can leave fans wondering what went wrong. That’s life in Lexington, where championships are the standard, not the dream.

Opponents aren’t just dealing with a loud crowd at Rupp. They’re walking into a building where Big Blue Nation expects wins — and championship banners.

No. 14: Florida — Stephen C. O’Connell Center

The O’Dome has a not-so-secret weapon: its roof. The sound gets trapped inside and when the Gators go on a run, that noise seems to come down on the visiting bench from every direction.

The Rowdy Reptiles student section leads the charge, especially when an SEC rival comes to town. With orange and blue filling the stands, all it takes is a couple of big plays for the place to go from loud to absolutely deafening.

Florida might not have the same basketball reputation as Kentucky, but don’t let that fool you.

On the right night in Gainesville, the O’Dome can get just as rowdy as any arena in the country — and opposing teams have to find a way to deal with it.

The Jungle, Auburn’s student section, brings a fierce home-court advantage to Neville Arena. Photo by Stew Milne/Getty Images

No. 21: Auburn — Neville Arena

The Jungle isn’t just a nickname. It’s a warning.

Auburn’s student section packs in close to the floor and brings the noise from the opening tip to the final buzzer. When the Tigers start knocking down 3s and piling up defensive stops, the energy builds fast, and Neville Arena becomes one of those places where visiting teams can feel the pressure mounting with every possession.

The Jungle feeds off big plays, feeds off momentum and isn’t shy about letting the other team hear it.

Of the five SEC arenas on this list, Auburn might have the most room to climb. Think No. 21 is too high? Too low? Go ahead and argue. The Jungle is listening.
