Oklahoma football traditions that bring Norman, Memorial Stadium to life

College football is built on traditions, but few conferences embrace them like the Southeastern Conference.

At Oklahoma, the traditions that define home game Saturdays in Norman stand shoulder to shoulder with those of every other great college football town in the SEC, creating one of the most distinctive atmospheres in the sport.

Those traditions include:

  • The Sooner Schooner racing across the field after every Sooners score inside Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
  • The Pride of Oklahoma band keeping the energy high by playing “Boomer Sooner” throughout the game.
  • The RUF/NEKS spirit squad firing a shotgun after each touchdown.

OU’s game-day traditions reflect the history, pride and pageantry that have long defined Saturdays in Norman.

And with the Sooners joining the SEC in 2024, they are now woven into the fabric of SEC football.
