There are bad bets, and there are bad beats.
Johnny Knoxville turned his Missouri-Mississippi State pick into both.
The “Jackass” star was the celebrity guest picker Saturday on ESPN’s “College GameDay,” which was set up in Knoxville for the Texas-Tennessee matchup at Neyland Stadium.
And while back in his hometown for one of the biggest games of the college football season, Knoxville decided to put a little skin in the game.
He picked Missouri.
And he was confident about the pick.
“I’m so sure about this game, that if Missouri loses, I will punish myself by listening to Pat McAfee’s new album on repeat until Halloween,” Knoxville said.
McAfee, sitting nearby, immediately objected.
“No!” he said.
Knoxville tried to soften the blow with a quick “No offense.”
“Yeah, dude, offense taken,” McAfee replied.
Then Mississippi State ruined Knoxville’s Saturday — and potentially his October — by beating Missouri 38-17.
Knoxville’s career was built on making questionable decisions and then dealing with the consequences.
Only this time, there was no stunt coordinator, no safety crew and no elaborate “Jackass” setup.
Just a microphone, a football prediction and a monthlong date with McAfee’s album.
No stunt. No safety net. Just McAfee on repeat.
Other Week 4 bad beats
Iowa 20, Michigan 19
For those who had Michigan at -4.5 or the under at 38.5 … oof.
The Wolverines led 19-14 with less than two minutes left, but Iowa drove from its own 9-yard line to the Michigan 16. The clock stopped with two seconds left after a Michigan injury, giving the Hawkeyes just enough time to run one more play.
Iowa cashed in that extra life with the winning touchdown on the game’s last play.
Brutal doesn’t quite cover it.
Notre Dame 49, Purdue 10
Trailing 49-3, Purdue scored a 14-yard touchdown with six seconds left to push the total over 56.5.
If you had the under, that final touchdown was pure misery.
Pittsburgh 59, Bucknell 0
Leading 52-0 with 25 seconds left, the Panthers, who were 54.5-point favorites, threw an 18-yard touchdown to make it 59-0.
If you had Bucknell, you were sitting pretty … until Pitt decided 52 points against an FCS opponent in Week 4 weren’t enough.
