By the time most Texas fans arrive at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, some students have already been waiting nearly 24 hours to get inside. They camp out, trade shifts and rely on friends to deliver food, all for a shot at the best spots in the student section. Outside the gates, Bevo Boulevard is buzzing with food trucks, yard games and even a 180-foot zip line. At Texas, game day starts long before kickoff.
In the debut episode of In the Student Section, host Lindsay Zienty heads to Austin for Texas’ SEC showdown with Ole Miss to find out what makes a Saturday with Longhorn Nation so special. She meets Matthew McConaughey, hangs out with Preston Powe, better known as Big Red, whose Jumbotron appearances sometimes cost him his shirt, and gets the student section’s take on everything from the pregame flyovers to the cannon and “The Eyes of Texas.” Watch the full episode below.
