Leading from the front: How one Colorado senior made Ralphie’s Run history

Talk about breaking barriers.

Senior Emma Morgan became the first woman in the 59-year history of the Ralphie’s Run tradition to take the coveted front position with the University of Colorado’s legendary live buffalo mascot, doing so during the second-half run on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Folsom Field.

If you know anything about the Ralphie handlers, you know this spot isn’t handed out lightly.

It takes speed, strength, athleticism and flawless technique to help guide a 1,200-pound buffalo down the field.

Morgan’s historic run marks a milestone for the Ralphie handlers program and opens the door for more women to take on one of Colorado’s most iconic roles.

Hats off to Morgan, who proved she has what it takes to lead the way — and make history along the way.
