There are losses, and then there are losses that send college football fans sprinting toward a microphone like it owes them money.
Enter this Alabama superfan, whose legendary rant this week on “The Paul Finebaum Show” belongs in the College Football Hall of Fame.
Needless to say, “Legend” wasn’t happy after the Crimson Tide lost back-to-back games to two of their biggest rivals, Georgia and Tennessee, in dropping consecutive regular-season games for the first time since 2007, Nick Saban’s first season in Tuscaloosa.
Listen to the rant yourself.
Indeed, this wasn’t your Monday-after-a-loss complaint about play-calling, a dropped pass or a blown coverage.
This was a full-scale indictment of Alabama’s program, with “Legend” attacking head coach Kalen DeBoer, defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and athletic director Greg Byrne during his nearly two-minute tirade.
This was a football rant becoming a one-man TED Talk delivered with the urgency of a fan watching his favorite team’s season slip away in real time.
Of course, Alabama (5-2) has an opportunity to restore order to the Crimson Tide universe this weekend, with Texas A&M (4-3) traveling to Bryant-Denny Stadium (3:30 p.m. ET Saturday/ABC) for what could be a get-right game.
A win temporarily could calm the masses. A loss? Well, somebody might want to make sure Finebaum’s phone lines are ready for an emergency broadcast.
At Alabama, the expectation is championships.
The consolation prize for the rest of us? Two minutes of radio gold.
